Major Gifts Executive

A new and exciting position has become available in our Alumni and Foundation team for a confident communicator with experience in fundraising/ sales.

Millfield is one of the leading UK independent schools for boys and girls, aged 2-18 years. Millfield is not like other schools and never has been. Founded in 1935, Millfield’s vision is to be the world leader for the development of children. There are nearly 1300 students at the senior school (year 9 to U6) and a further 450 students at the neighbouring Prep School. Although essentially a rural British school, 20 per cent of Millfield students are international and come from more than 70 countries. Millfield is an incredible place and with over 22,000 Old Millfieldians all around the world, there are many well-known faces who have been hugely successful in the fields of sport, science, music, academics and more.

As the Major Gifts Executive your role will be to manage, nurture and enhance relationships with a portfolio of 100 – 125 major gift prospects and to build on the major gifts program by identifying, steward and solicit prospective donors.

Key duties include (but not limited to):

  1. Pro-actively establish and develop purposeful relationships with external stakeholders (alumni, parents of past or current students and other friends of Millfield, trusts and foundations and corporate bodies) in order to secure new and additional funds to support the schools strategic fundraising priorities.
    2. Lead the process of identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major prospects.
    3. Assist with the development and execution of a solicitation plan with an emphasis on personal face-to-face visits.
    4. Work in conjunction with the Head of Alumni and Foundation to identify, visit and evaluate alumni, current and former parents, friends and grandparent prospects.
    5. Develop strategies to cultivate and update prospects on key initiatives.
    6. Provide prospects with planned giving ideas and illustrations as appropriate.
    7. Develop a tiered system of major gift prospects and facilitate the movement of those prospects through the various stages of giving.
    8. Prepare written strategies to cultivate relationships that will lead to solicitations and stewardship of major and planned gifts; and ensure timely and appropriate acknowledgement of major and planned gifts.
    9. Attend key events to interact with donors and prospects as well as keep apprised of timely and relevant School information in order to create solicitation proposals.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with substantial experience working in a results-driven environment and of asking for financial commitments from individuals. To be successful in this role you will need be a self-starter capable of handling curveballs thrown your way; have outstanding written and verbal communication skills including being able to navigate sensitive topics of conversation and articulate the school purpose and objectives; be target-driven, enthusiastic, and resilient; and have great IT skills. Due to the nature of the work and the individuals you may be interacting with in this role, a commitment to confidentiality is also essential.

This role will primarily work 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday however flexibility will be needed as occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary due to alumni and fundraising events.
