Founded in 1646, Reading Blue Coat is a leading independent day school of circa 800 pupils from ages 11 to 18. The School is located on a beautiful 46-acre campus in the village of Sonning, just outside Reading.

The School employs more than 180 staff, of whom 50% are academic staff, and provides a stimulating, friendly and supportive atmosphere in which each pupil can realise his or her full intellectual, physical, and creative potential.

We are seeking an enthusiastic marketing and communications professional with exceptional skills in establishing robust relationships and networks and communication to lead our external relations team.

In this role, you will be responsible for marketing the School, developing and delivering our external communications and sustain high demand for places from talented and committed young people.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful team leadership, be adept at leveraging diverse skill sets to accomplish objectives and be able to establish robust relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week from Monday to Friday as well as additional hours after school and on weekends for delivery of events.

Director of External Relations

With a growing school roll (currently 430) and looking towards the School’s 300th anniversary in 2024-25, the School is looking to appoint a Director of External Relations. As head of a department of two people, under the direction of the Head, the DoER will have oversight of admissions & student recruitment; marketing; advertising & branding; communications & publishing; feeder & partner school liaison; events; and relationships with alumni, parents and friends of the School. The DoER will act as the School’s (temporary) Tier 4 Authorising Officer.

Experience of boarding and day student recruitment (international, national and local); knowledge of strategic marketing and the creation and implementation of marketing plans; UKVI SMS administration; first class communication and relationship building skills; flexible working hours; and a desire to travel (both in the UK and internationally) are essential. The role is full time and permanent.
