The Director of Marketing and Communications will shape and instil a new family wide vision, strategy and brand for the Eltham College family of schools.

This is a pivotal new leadership role, responsible for the development and execution of an ambitious and cohesive strategy for marketing and communications to support pupil recruitment and the wider charitable activities of the family of schools.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working as a key member of the Executive Team, the post holder will bring vision, leadership and professional expertise to inspire and engage a diverse community of internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will be an effective and experienced strategic marketer, with an extensive professional skillset and demonstrable track record in strategic marketing, communications, brand management and leading successful teams – gained from within or outside the education sector. They will have confidence, creativity and charisma, but also demonstrate subtlety and flexibility in order to engage a wide range of stakeholders in the successful delivery of the Eltham College family’s strategic aims.

Marketing and Communications Manager

The Role
Marketing and Communications is a busy, multi-skilled and dynamic department at the heart of Albyn School. The department manages all digital and print communications, promotional activities, media relations and PR. It is responsible for increasing awareness and understanding of our school’s ethos and achievements as well as generating interest in our activities and pupil applications to join the school.

The Marketing and Communications Manager will work closely with the Director of Marketing and Admissions, the Headmaster, colleagues and pupils across the school. The postholder oversees all marketing and communication activities for the school and regularly sources and generates content to stimulate demand and interest in the school while tracking and reporting on the department’s activities.

Key Responsibilities
These include, but are not limited to:

  • Guardian and champion of the Albyn School brand ensuring that all internal and external messaging meets agreed guidelines.
  • Develop and deliver creative marketing and communications activities across various platforms to support pupil recruitment and retention in line with agreed timelines.
  • Oversight of the school’s marketing materials (including creative development and delivery of advertising) ensuring editorial accuracy and a consistent visual and written style.
  • Manage content, presentation and maintenance of the School’s corporate website and social media channels
  • Implement an effective digital and social media strategy, creating new and compelling content both static and dynamic.
  • Generate coverage, both proactively and reactively, of specific and compelling stories from across the school which demonstrate the ethos, aims and values of the school.
  • Copywriting including press releases, website content, articles, social media posts, blogs etc.
  • Assist with the design of invitations, videos, posters and flyers.
  • Contribute to the promotion, planning and delivery of selected events such as Open Mornings and school shows.
  • Provide analytical assessments of marketing and communications activities against key objectives to inform future campaigns.
  • Media management – first port of call for any media enquiries regarding editorial content or advertising.
  • Management of the annual School Magazine: liaising with staff to write and obtain copy and images. Proofread and work closely with the design company to deliver soft and hard copy issues ready for distribution at the end of September.
  • Management and development of the school’s photograph and video library, working with the staff to create new and engaging photo and video content.
  • Liaise with third party external agencies on projects as and when required.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge and experience of GDPR regulations.
  • Provide support and cover for other members of the Marketing and Admissions teams.
  • Support the Development Director as directed by the Director of Marketing and Admissions.
  • Any other related tasks that the Headmaster and the Director of Marketing and Admissions may reasonably assign.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A record of good academic achievement and educated to degree level or equivalent in a marketing or business discipline.
  • A demonstrable understanding of the principles of marketing (including digital marketing), customer care and PR.
  • Proven organisational, communication, team, and project management skills.
  • The ability to write and verbally communicate messages that are clear, concise, and inspiring.
  • Established experience in managing a performance marketing channel (paid search or paid social).
  • An understanding of digital marketing including social media, PPC, SEO, CRM, and awareness of current digital trends.
  • The ability to generate high quality marketing materials, including prospectuses, brochures, presentations and infographics.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent communication, team-working and people management skills.
  • Flexible with energy, stamina, and a sense of humour.
  • Strong management skills that can develop colleagues.
  • Strong typography, layout, and graphic design skills.
  • Ability to multitask and deliver high quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Passionate about learning and developing.
  • Strong knowledge of Google Analytics, including reporting, audience, and goal tracking.
  • Skills and awareness to differentiate between market segments.
  • A commitment to promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children.

Appointment Terms
This is a permanent post available from date tbc.

Salary will be in excess of £35k per annum, dependent on qualifications and experience.

The pension scheme the School will use to comply with its auto-enrolment obligations is the Royal London. The School may amend or replace the scheme from time to time.
